Edge Tab Preview Hover Delay Timeout Settings [Registry Tweaks]

We saw how to disable Edge’s tab preview feature using a registry hack. With the Anniversary Update, there is an additional hidden registry setting for configuring Edge tab previews.

Note: Information in this article does not apply to the new Microsoft Edge (Chromium). It’s applicable to the old Microsoft Edge browser only.

You can now choose how fast Edge shows tab previews when you hover your mouse over a tab. By default, the preview shows up in less than a second, but if you want to delay it or display it even quicker, here is how to do so.

Edge Tab Preview Show Delay

Start Regedit.exe and go to the following registry key.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AppContainer\Storage\microsoft.microsoftedge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\MicrosoftEdge\TabbedBrowsing

Create a DWORD (32 bit) value named TabPeekShowDelay

Set the appropriate value data in milliseconds (base Decimal). For example, to show tab previews after a two-second delay (after hovering the mouse pointer over a tab), set the value data to 2000. To show it immediately, set the value data to 0 or 1. That would be lightning fast.

Edge Tab Preview Hide Delay

Similarly, you can set how long the tab preview appears on the screen after moving the mouse pointer away from the tab and the preview square. By default, it disappears instantly. To make it appear a bit longer, create a DWORD (32 bit) value named TabPeekHideDelay under the same registry key above.

Set the appropriate value data in milliseconds (base Decimal). To continue showing tab previews for two seconds after you move your mouse pointer away from the tab or preview image, set the value data to 2000

Exit the Registry Editor

I set the “show” delay to 1000 ms and “hide” delay to 1 ms, which is instant.
