However, I get an error while trying to merge the registry files in Vista. Registry editor complains that some keys are used by the system or other processes.

I tried to boot into safe mode and it didn't work. Killing explorer.exe didn't work either. Any ideas how to merge the registry file? Thanks.

One day, My IE7 started to dont loading PNG images with no reason.

Months before this problem, I have installed a Codec Pack to see movies, "K-Lite" in my case (this Codec was not the reason of the problem, but yes the fix it)

I just reinstall my codec pack (without uninstall it first) and the IE problem has been fixed.

So to fix it just reinstall your codec pack and if you dont have anyone then download someone, http://www.codecguide.com/

MANY thanks! I also had the merge error, but most importantly, despite that it fixed the missing icons in Vista's "Help and Support" than other PNG & XML fixes hadn't resolved [and was REALLY hacking me off!]

No idea what upset PNG's... I think the Vista reg is a bit flaky...

Now, if you could only tell us how to set e.g. Photoshop as the JPEG editor without loosing the Preview capability...

I broke the fix file up into 20 individual reg files & tried merging each, & found about 5 that would not merge. The corresponding 5 entries in my registry were "owned" by a "Trustedinstall" account. Changing ownership to administrators & allowing the user & administrators to have full access allowed the reg file to be merged. It unfortunately has not fixed my Vista IE7 .png file display problem. *sigh*.
Remember opening IE7 as administrator is at least a temp way around it, but a tad unsecure.

I tried reexecuting the pngasso_vista.reg file after extracting it from the zip file. It finally worked. I got the error message but the problem got fixed. I don't care. It does not have to be logical. All it has to do is work.
