Restore missing Control Panel icons

Q: In trying to uninstall TweakUI, I unchecked some 'programs' under one of the tabs in Tweak - BIG, BIG mistake! Most of the icons that were in Control Panel are now gone! I tried reinstalling TweakUI and it didn't install. I tried using System Restore, but it was useless - none of the past two months worked. How do I restore Control Panel, short of reinstalling Windows? Thanks in advance... Bob
A: The list of hidden CPLs (Control Panel applet) are kept in the registry. You can reset the listing by editing the registry directly. Follow these steps:
- Click Start, Run and type Regedit.exe
- Navigate to the following location:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Control Panel \ don't load
- Backup the branch using the Export option under File menu
- In the right pane, delete all the values whose data is set to no
- Close Regedit.exe
Spread The Word
