Windows Media Center – No Pictures Were Found

Q:   I opened Windows Media Center, clicked picture library and browse to a folder which contains my digital photos. To my surprise, none of the digital photos (mostly JPEG files) don’t show up, while the files are still on the hard disk. It used to show up the thumbnail images correctly, but now it shows the message No pictures were found. I’m using Windows Vista Ultimate. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:   This problem occurs if some of the file class data is missing for the image file type you’re trying to view. This may be a result of installing a third-party image viewer or editor application. Windows uses the PerceivedType registry value to determine the file format type (image, video, music etc). Missing PerceivedType registry value caused some strange problems in the earlier version of Windows as well.

PERCEIVEDTYPE FIX

1. Download fixmediatypes.reg and save to Desktop.

2. Right-click on the file and then choose Merge.

3. Click Yes when asked for confirmation.

The above file (for Windows Vista systems) fixes the PerceivedType registry value for most of the image and media file types supported by Windows Media Center.

Thanks for that it worked a treat with my PC. However, I have the same issue with my xbox360 when using windows media center. I can see the files but when I click on them to view, it states, ‘no pictures found’?

I was referenced to this site from another for a MCE problem. One download and merge and 3 days of troubleshooting has been fixed!

    Thanks,
    Syst
