Windows 7 Services Default Configuration Startup Type and Log On Account

Did you tweak the Services configuration incorrectly, resulting in a system slowdown or leading to other catastrophe? And you don’t remember the original configuration to revert back? You may find the Windows 7 default Services configuration table below useful.

Note that some of these services may not be found in your system, depending upon the edition of Windows 7 you’ve installed. For example, the BranchCache feature and the corresponding Service are available only in Windows 7 Ultimate and Enterprise Editions.

  1. Thanks for this list. Windows XP had a “Default settings for services” directly in the CHM help file for Services.msc but the documentation has been so heavily dumbed down since Vista that this was gone as well.

  2. I cannot thank you enough for including the “service and log on as” list above! I have been struggling for a couple of days now! I finally messed my computer up so badly a couple of hours ago I didn’t think I could bring it back without a system restore.

That was, until I found your info. Thank you again. I appreciate it more than you’ll ever know.

    Desperate no longer,
    Patricia Hughes

  3. had to translate this to french though ! first all applications online don’t include the ‘log on as’ and i didn’t want to lose all my data coz i didn’t have enough space for backup !! having windows defender & fire-wall problems for once and awhile ! thus your list was a big help for me ! thanks so much

  4. THANK YOU! Couldn’t find this info anywhere else! Was so frustrated with Microsoft and Windows, that I almost did a whole restore, SOOOOOO thankful for your help! Thanks

  5. Quite a few problems with going by what is listed as windows 7 default services. I have tested on 3 different systems and when a service is in manual mode there are times when another service is dependant on that service running then doesnt start. The only fixes other than reinstall windows as well as system restore are to reinstall the last most recent service pack. That sometimes does the trick. From experience when you modify services unless you know what you are doing dont touch. The only service I changed was the intel service from automatic delayed to automatic.

  6. Very very helpful information because it allowed me to reconcile the status of the services in my computer with those in your list. Good Job and congratulations.
