Update AVG Anti-Virus Silently Using Command-Line

There is an undocumented command-line parameter (/SCHED) that can be used with AVG Updater to check for and install updates automatically. The /SCHED switch can be used with AVG Anti-Virus versions 7 & 8.

AVG Anti-Virus 8.x

"%ProgramFiles%\AVG\AVG8\avgupd.exe" /SCHED=4

AVG Anti-Virus 7.x

"%ProgramFiles%\Grisoft\AVG7\avginet.exe" /SCHED=4

To test if the last update was successful, open AVG User Interface and verify the Last scan/Last update time and the Virus Database version.

Does the ’4′ in /sched=4 mean anything? I’m not really clear on what this switch DOES exactly…

Hi, thanks for this :) I have written a batch file that well, does loads of things really lol. However, one option is that the user is given the choice to install AVG 8. This is done silently and does not require any further user interaction other than initially saying YES to install – and all from a USB Pen Drive too :) The above little snippet helped me auto-update everything once it had been installed meaning I could skip the crappy task of manually updating. Top job, thanks again ;)

Thanks – I already did that – so I have to click it every day?

I also tried to schedule that as a scheduled task.

I checked to see if the update was run this morning and clicked on update. It found an update and then asked me to “select” the “update to download and install.” and then I had to click the “update” button. This was what I’m trying to avoid – having to manually ask for the update and click the button. So I guess what I asked for what not what I really need. It’s just a few moments out of time to do it as AVG requires so I give up :-)

    Have a great day . .

Where do you use this line? Is it in regedit somewhere or clicking a shortcut on the desktop daily? Thanks.
