Add “Lock Workstation” Command to the Windows XP Start Menu
To lock a Windows 2000/XP/Vista workstation, most people use the popular WinKey + L keystroke. Whereas some (mouse users) prefer a shortcut which locks the workstation using the "rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation" command. Add a Custom Instant Search Internet Search Provider to the Vista Start Menu
The Start menu in Windows Vista includes the Search the Internet link, which opens your web browser and searches the Internet for your term. This uses the default Search provider that you’ve configured in Internet Explorer. Besides this, there is a new Group Policy setting in Windows Vista which allows you add a custom instant search internet search provider to the Start menu. (more…)

Games Explorer Link in the Vista Start Menu Does Not Work
When you click Games Explorer in the Windows Vista Start menu, a folder window may open briefly and then closes out. Despite this problem you may be able to run individual games from Start, All Programs, Games folder in the Start menu. (more…)

Launching Programs as Administrator From the Vista Start Menu
We have covered this here already. Thought I’d add this particular one separately as a quick tip!
You can run programs under elevated rights by right-clicking on the executable or its shortcut and choosing Run as Administrator. Here is a keyboard shortcut that helps you launch programs elevated from the Start menu Search box. (more…)

Change Vista Start Menu Power Button Action to Shut Down the Computer
By default, when you click the Power button in the Start menu, it goes into Sleep mode. To turn off your Windows Vista system, you’ll have to click the arrow (next to the Power button), and select Shut Down in the drop-down list, as shown in figure below: (more…)
