Deleted Files Are Shown When Performing a Search in Windows Vista
When you perform a search in Windows Vista, files that were deleted earlier may show up in Search results. This is because the Indexing Service needs some time to update its records. The time frame may vary from one system to the other. In case search still continues to show deleted files, or if it does not show files that exist in the system, the indexing service may be out of date, and you may have to rebuild the search index to fix the problem. Add a New File Type to the Search Index in Windows Vista
Windows Vista includes most file types in its Search Index by default. For file types that are not indexed, Search would still work, but will be slower as Windows has to recursively search each folder in your hard disk for the file name or file type that you’re finding.
If you have a custom file type in your PC that you want to add to Windows Search Index for much quicker search, you can do so using Indexing Options. (more…)
Searching Multiple File Types in Windows Vista
Q: In Windows 2000 and Windows XP you could fill *.doc and *.cpp separated by a semi-colon (;) into the search field and both file types would be found. This does not seem to work in Windows Vista. It simply does not find anything when both types are applied. How do I search for multiple file types in Windows Vista? (more…)
