Getting ready to upgrade to Windows 7? Check out the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor tool from Microsoft, which scans your hardware, devices, and installed programs for known compatibility issues, gives you guidance on how to resolve potential issues found, and recommends what to do before you upgrade.

Be running the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, plug in and turn on any USB devices or other devices, such as printers, external hard disks, and scanners, that you regularly use with the PC you’re checking.

Windows 7 Enterprise 90-Day Trial Is Available From TechNet Evaluation Center

Microsoft TechNet Evaluation Center has made available the Windows 7 Enterprise 90-day Trial pack, so that IT Professionals can test their software and hardware on a final version of the product. Note that you don’t need this Trial pack if you have access to MSDN or TechNet Subscription where you can get the final bits of Windows 7.

The 90-day Trial is the full working version of the Windows 7 Enterprise, and it does not require a product key as it is embedded with the download. The 90-day Trial will shut down once every hour when you have reached the end of the 90-day evaluation period.

Windows 7 Is Now Available for MSDN and TechNet Subscribers

The wait is over! As promised, Microsoft has made available the Windows 7 RTM for MSDN and TechNet subscribers on Aug 6 2009. MSDN/TechNet subscribers can download Windows 7 RTM from the subscriber downloads pages (MSDN / TechNet).

Windows Vista Service Pack 2 Available for Public Download

Microsoft earlier announced the availability of Service Pack 2 for Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista to MSDN and TechNet Plus Subscribers. Now the public download of Windows Vista/Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 is available. Here are the download links for the standalone installer. Note that it has not hit Windows Updates yet. Wordpress Memory Usage & Website Outage Issues Resolved

For the past two days, our site remained inaccessible due to intermittent crash of the Apache and MySQL servers. I immediately wrote to MediaTemple support to know what’s going on with the server. They stated that this had to do with the amount of traffic, and the number of active connections to my site were high. This got me thinking as the crash occurred many times in the off-peak hours where the traffic per hour would be in few hundreds. When I explained this, MT support suggested that I tune up the Apache and MySQL servers. I did that and nothing improved. (more…)
