Fix: MP3 Files Are Saved With Incorrect File Extension When Downloaded

Display a Warning When Users Try to Modify .Lnk Association in Vista

I’m not sure why people associate .lnk files with different programs using the Default Programs applet in Windows Vista. Doing so would break the functionality of Shortcuts, and you need to perform a System Restore rollback or apply the .lnk file association fix to straighten things up. And why in the first place does the Default Programs list .lnk file type? .lnk, .exe, .com …etc. are system file types should not be associated with any application. Default Programs List Is Completely Empty

After seeing reports of Nokia Video Manager wiping out the Set Your Default Programs list in Windows Vista, I tried to replicate the problem to check if it was really caused by Nokia Video Manager. I installed the latest version of Nokia PC Suite and Nokia Video Manager in my Windows Vista PC. Then I uninstalled Nokia Video Manager, which in fact wiped out the Default Programs programs list completely. This certainly is caused by a glitch in Nokia Video Manager’s uninstaller. (more…)

Incorrect Icon Shown for a File Type in Vista

Recently I received a query wherein the user had incorrectly associated .zip file type with Adobe Reader. Later they got the association problem straightened out by running the .zip association fix from the File association fixes for Windows Vista page. The problem is that the .zip file type is still showing the Adobe Reader icon, although the association settings are correct. (more…)
