Piriform, the creators of the useful CCleaner tool, have released a light-weight system information utility named Speccy. Ever wondered what type of memory is installed in your computer (size, specification and speed)? The System Information Tool in Windows (msinfo32) doesn’t give you that much details.
Speccy gives details about the Operating System installed, specifications of the Processor, Memory, Motherboard, Audio, Video, Optical Drives etc, installed in your PC. It also shows the CPU and Hard disk temperature.

Download Speccy from Piriform.com.
Editor’s Note: EVEREST from Lavalys has been my favorite. But it appears that they’ve discontinued the free edition. Do you have any freeware System Information tool suggestions that you want to share with us?

I have used S.I.W. (System Information for Windows) at http://www.gtopala.com/ for years. I believe it has all the features of Speccy plus a lot of other information in a reasonably uncluttered interface. I find it more useful than SiSoftware Sandra (although it does not have benchmarks) and it is free. Highly recommended.
My personal favorite tool is SiSoftware SANDRA. It does have a lite version which, but I really don’t know how it fares since I own a commercial version.
I also own a copy of TuneUp Utilties 2009 which comes with a great hardware information tool.
Windows also comes with to hardware information tool which are extremely useless: (1) System Information accessory and (2) dxdiag.
