Hi,

I've resisted upgrading to IE8 because of the fact that the toolbars postions are less configurable than in IE 6. IE7 seemed a bit worse but IE8 seemed way too locked down.

I ended up upgrading IE to 8 on one computer and somehow managed to arrange toolbars in such a way that I found it liveable; not great but tolerable. I wasn't able to do the same on another computer next time I installed IE8. Very frustrating.

Tonight while reading your tips I figured out how to do it. I followed your suggestion but then I turned off Tabbed Browsing. I don't like tabs so I always turn off that feature but then moving toolbars becomes more restricted. The 'trick' seems to be to arrange the toolbars first, then turn off the tabs.

I hope this helps someone else.
