The Quick Launch Toolbar (Deskband) in the Taskbar has been removed in Windows 7 as the Taskbar design has changed. Tim Sneath’s Tip #13 tells you how to add the Quick Launch Toolbar using the New Folder command. This also exposes the icons for Internet Explorer, Show Desktop and Flip 3D shortcuts.
Adding the Quick Launch Toolbar, Show Desktop and Flip 3D icons
Right-click the taskbar, choose Toolbars and click New Toolbar
Type the following path and click Select Folder:
Right-click on the Taskbar and uncheck Lock the taskbar option
Right-click on the Quick Launch Toolbar’s drag handle, and uncheck the following options:
- Show text
- Show title
![]()
Optionally, you can set the icons size to Large. To do so, right-click on the Quick Launch Toolbar divider, click View and select Large Icons.
Once done, right-click on the Taskbar and click Lock the taskbar.
