In Internet Explorer options, there is a Feed Settings dialog box which allows you set the feed synchronization schedule. You can choose one of the following options in that dialog:

  • 15 minutes
  • 30 minutes
  • 1 hour
  • 4 hours
  • 1 day
  • 1 week

Note: To access the above setting, open Internet Explorer, click Tools, Internet Options, select the Content tab and then click Settings.

Also, you can use the Refresh All command by right-clicking on a feed in Internet Explorer (Press CTRL + J to open Feeds explorer.) to refresh all the RSS feeds subscribed in Internet Explorer.

Besides these options, how about creating a Desktop shortcut which when clicked, forces a refresh of all the RSS feeds subscribed in Internet Explorer?

1. Right-click on the Desktop, click New, select Shortcut

2. Type the following command and click Next

msfeedssync.exe forcesync

3. Type a name for the shortcut (say, Update RSS)

4. Click Finish

When you want to update your RSS feeds, simply double-click on the shortcut you created.

Optionally, you may assign a RSS feed icon for the shortcut, and then move the shortcut to your Quick Launch folder for easy access.

Editor’s note: Just in case you want to check if the command is working, run TCPView to see if msfeedssync.exe originates some TCP connections.
