Microsoft SharedView lets you collaborate with up to 15 people and share the desktop or individual application windows in the host computer with other users. Let’s assume you have a detailed action plan for your company stored in a word document, and you need to share the document with your fellow staffs so that they can do their modifications to the original document simultaneously, SharedView should suffice your needs. Further, if you have Track Changes feature enabled in Microsoft Word, each change made to the content of the Word document by a participant can be identified with the participant’s name with the timestamp when the change was made. The host can then review the modified document, and accept or reject each change.

All you need is a Windows Live ID to start or join a session in SharedView.

Start SharedView, sign in using your Windows Live ID, and then start a new session.

Invite other people by sending the instructions via e-mail.

When each user joins, you’re asked to either Allow or Deny the user from joining the session.

Click the Participants tab to view the list of persons who have joined the meeting.

You can add a handout for the meeting (a document containing the agenda, for example) which can be downloaded by the users.

Click the Share tab, and select the application that you want to share with others, and click Start. As you see, you have the option to share the entire desktop as well.

Select the word document that you want to share with other users to get their inputs, and to get the changes made by the users themselves.

If an user wants to make change to the document, they can request control, and it requires approval from the host. The host clicks "Yes" to approve.

The user "Winhelponline Editor" makes changes to the Word document and once done, the host takes control of the screen. If Track Changes feature is enabled in Microsoft Word and SharedView Options, each change is marked clearly to indicate who made the change along with the timestamp. The host has the option to Accept or Reject each change (using the "Review" tab in Word 2007/2010)

Note that you need to enable Use Track Changes option in SharedView Options dialog, as well as in Microsoft Word (Review tab in Word 2007/2010)

SharedView also has a nice little chat window, which you can undock and move anywhere across the screen.

SharedView is a good screen sharing software that can be very useful to collaborate on projects, host a slideshow presentation etc. SharedView would be more useful if voice support is added in future builds.
