taskkill /f is definitely NOT a clean method to do it. it’s like kill -KILL in Linux, you should resort to that only if the soft way doesn’t work.
for example, if explorer.exe is writing to a thumbdrive, things can go wrong very messy.

run: taskkill /f /im explorer.exe
output:
SUCCESS: The process “explorer.exe” with PID 644 has been terminated.
SUCCESS: The process “explorer.exe” with PID 3760 has been terminated.

Open Task Manager and whoala…pid 644 is still there. M$ really needs to copy what L*nux in managing processes. It’s pain in the butt to kill a hanging process, even if that process is explorer !

RESTART EXPLORER BATCH

in notepad:

taskkill /f /im explorer.exe
explorer.exe

save as (pick a name) RESTART EXPLORER.BAT

double click… fresh Explorer

could a little .bat file be set up to do this?
close and restart explorer.exe
