Windows Live Photo Gallery is the successor to Windows Photo Gallery in Windows Vista, with additional features and enhancements. In Windows Vista, installing Windows Live Photo Gallery (Beta 2 and final) does not replace entry points for Windows Photo Gallery. This means that Windows Photo Gallery displays in the Open with menu / Open with dialog, AutoPlay window and in Default Programs.

Note: Windows Photo Gallery and Windows Live Photo Gallery can co-exist without any problem. It’s up to you to decide whether to hide Windows Photo Gallery or not.
If you’ve Windows Live Photo Gallery installed and don’t plan to use Windows Photo Gallery, you can hide the latter if you find it redundant. To do so, you may use the utility below.

1. Click Start, Default Programs, Set your default programs
2. Select Windows Live Photo Gallery and click Set this program as default
3. Click OK and close the Default Programs window.
4. Download wpgconfig.zip (31KB) and save to Desktop. Unzip and extract wpgconfig.exe to a folder.
5. Double-click the file wpgconfig.exe to run it
6. Click Hide access to Windows Photo Gallery
7. Click the [X] button to close the tool.
Windows Photo Gallery should no longer be displayed in Open with, AutoPlay dialog and Default Programs.
