Microsoft has made available a hotfix that’ll resolve a problem where the taskbar customizations are lost and reset to defaults when automatic logon is enabled in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. More details are available at FIX: The Taskbar is reset to the default settings when you use the "Automatically Log On" feature in Windows 7 and in Windows Server 2008 R2.
Microsoft KB979155 states:
To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Customer Support Services to obtain the hotfix. For a complete list of Microsoft Customer Support Services telephone numbers and information about support costs, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/?ws=support
And the "hotfix request form" that you see for other hotfixes, is for some reason, unavailable for this hotfix.

However, I managed to obtain the hotfix (without calling Microsoft Support) by requesting it via the direct URL below:
http://support.microsoft.com/hotfix/KBHotfix.aspx?kbnum=979155&kbln=en-us

Extract the files from the (password protected) self-extracting file, and run the Microsoft Update Package (Windows6.1-KB979155-x64.msu / Windows6.1-KB979155-x86.msu)

Restart Windows and ensured that ExplorerFrame.dll is updated to 6.1.7600.16504 for Windows 7.
