This looks like an awesome fix, and I WISH Vista would make this an ACTUAL option. Having to fiddle in the registry is utter madness. Why they couldn't have left it like XP is beyond me.

Thanks alot! Really! Thank you so much! My Vista Home Premium laptop was like a real nutcase. Every time I opened a folder it showed the most weird view and folder type settings it could show (like the "Games" folder had "Photo and Video" type which is really annoying because you can't change the folder type manually for "Games" ; or the "Music" folder had "Contacts" type.) And it changed all by itself. Almost every time I opened the same folder it had changed to a different type.

A function that basic should NOT have so irritating problems. That bug is just horrible! At least my family desktop computer with XP Home doesn't ever forget the view and folder type settings. Even for cameras, music players and other devices. I hope they do something to get things better in Microsoft.

I really appreciate the reg files (especially the last one)... I hate the concept of "templates" that give folders various looks depending on their content. All I want is every folder to show me the files it contains in a Detauils view. I don;t need thumbnails, I don't need icons... "just the facts, ma'am" - Setting all new folders to "All Items" means everything can be displayed as I want it, and new folders will follow that same, simle path.

Thanks for the fix. I have Vista Home Premium and when I open folders in explorer, many of them show as music type, even the Recycle Bin. I don't know why Vista thinks every folder is the music type.
