If you have Opera Web browser installed, you would have noticed that the icon for Opera browser is incorrect in the AutoPlay dialog, which is displayed when you insert a CD/DVD or connect a removable drive in your system. This non-fatal bug was reported back in the 2006 at Opera forums, but the problem seems to be unresolved, even in the latest version of Opera. Opera v9.27 is the latest stable build as of this writing.

This problem occurs because Opera Browser sets the Value Data for the DefaultIcon value incorrectly in this registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ explorer \ AutoplayHandlers \ Handlers \ OperaViewPicturesOnArrival

The Value data assigned for the DefaultIcon is as follows:

“C:\Program Files\Opera\Opera.exe,0″

The problem was resolved after removing the double-quotes from the Value data:

C:\Program Files\Opera\Opera.exe,0

The following works too!

“C:\Program Files\Opera\Opera.exe”,0

Registry Fix

Download opera-iconfix.reg and save to Desktop. Right-click on the file and choose Merge. Click Yes when asked for confirmation.

Note: Opera Browser’s path is hard-coded for C: drive in the REG file. If the location is different in your system, alter the path accordingly by editing the REG file with Notepad or any other text editor of your choice.

Opera icon in the AutoPlay dialog should now be fixed:
