When you open the Windows Contacts folder (shell:Contacts), the following buttons may be missing from the Command Bar:
- New Contact
- New Contact Group
- Import
- Export
This happens if the folder template for the Contacts folder is incorrect. Follow these steps to fix the problem:
1. Open the Contacts folder
2. Right-click an empty area in the folder, and choose Customize This Folder…
3. In the folder type drop down box, select Contacts
4. Click OK
The missing buttons should be restored to the Command bar.

I upgraded from Vista to W7 and restored all contacts to the proper Contacts directory. The standard email program that comes with W7 does not seem to be aware of this folder. It would be good to know the location of the email programs contacts. Further, if you add a new contact via the email program, it does not show up in the Contacts folder. So, where is the folder hidden?
I just love you!
But why does it happen in the first place?
