When you use the Find on this Page… option in the Edit menu, or  use the CTRL + F shortcut in Internet Explorer 8, the Find bar may not display. The space where the Find bar is to appear may be expanded correctly, but the Find bar does not show up and the toggle does not work.

Also when you click the Favorites Center button, the Favorites, Feeds and History tabs may be missing.

These problems occur if a module is not registered in the system. Run the following command to fix the problem.

Important: If you’re using Windows Vista, you’ll need to run the following command from an elevated Command Prompt. To open an elevated Command Prompt, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. (REF: How to open an elevated Command Prompt in Windows Vista)

Click Start, Run and type the following command:

regsvr32 oleacc.dll

Press ENTER. You should now see the following message:

DllRegisterServer in oleacc.dll succeeded.

Open a new Internet Explorer window and check if the Find bar shows up correctly.

    Thanks Ramesh
I tried this but as soon as I click Enter a blank screen appears and the error message pops up again. It won’t let me right click anywhere. I also tried right clicking on the file before clicking Enter. I chose properties but couldn’t change the location.
Is there anything else I can try?
    Thanks
    Natalie

@Natalie: Click Start, type “shell:favorites” and press ENTER. Right-click on an empty area and click Properties.
Select the Location tab, and click Restore Default.

I have IE8 running on Vista and can see the favorites bar but am unable to access it. it opens but there is nothing there. When I add anything it saves to C:\Users\MY HP\Music\Favorites\Favorites. Why does it save here? Can I change it? When I click on organise favorites an error messages pops up saying Location is unavailable.
    I am soooo lost
Please give me some advice to fix this problem
    Thanks
    Natalie

PS I tried registering the oleacc.dll as above which was successful, however it didn’t fix the problem.

Excellent solution. I was having this exact situation – my Find bar disappeared, and i couldn’t remember when it was last there. This fixed it. Thank you!
