Still DID not help
I have tired uninstaling an reinstaling it an im still getting the same message and have been for a week or more now an it won’t update!

I am still having a problem. I have uninstalled and reinstalled. Tried all the above suggestions and I am still getting the same error message.

that worked beautifully… i’ve been getting that error forever and finally decided to look at what was going on :) thank you its been annoying me for quite a while

Valid also for AVG9. It will also happen if you partially download a .bin update file, and then download the whole file to the same folder, and finally try to update from that directory (Tools, Update from directory – not sure of the wording, I’m translating from Spanish version). If the partially downloaded file ended up as “name.bin.part” there will be no problem. But if the file ends up as “name.bin”, and the complete file as “name(2).bin”, then you’ll need to delete the first one.

If you’re getting the CTF files error, just download the latest version of AVG. Mine wasn’t working with CTF file error, I just downloaded the latest version (9) and started a fresh. It automatically replaces the previous version for you and sorts the problem.
