I used your recommendation for method 2, download gpo-ie8-tour-disable.zip and then run it. So far so good. Thanks for the help. Glad to get rid of the intro screen.

When I follow your instructions and click ‘Run as Administrator’ I do not see the IE 8 intro screen and so cannot continue.
