Summary
The user interface in Internet Explorer 7 does not allow removing the Command Bar. In case you ever wanted to remove the Command Bar, here is the registry hack to do so. Be sure to read the caveats mentioned in the article.
Removing the Command Bar
Hide the Command Bar shortcuts only
- Click Start, Run and type REGEDIT.EXE
- Navigate to the following location:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\CommandBar
- Create a new REG_DWORD value named Enabled
- The Value data for Enabled must be set to 0
- Close REGEDIT.EXE
Removing the entire Command Bar
This method removes the entire Command Bar, which includes the tabs and the two Favorite icons. Use this only if you're not using the Tabbed browsing feature.
- Click Start, Run and type REGEDIT.EXE
- Navigate to the following location:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbars\Restrictions
Important Note: The above branch does not exist by default. You need to create them manually, or use the REG file at the bottom of this page to automate the setting.
- Create a new REG_DWORD value named NoCommandBar
- Double-click NoCommandBar and type 1 as its Value data
- Close REGEDIT.EXE
Automate
You can automate the above using the REG files available at the bottom of this page.

Is there any way to remove SEARCH BOX and put the menu bar above the address bar.
Editor's note: Yes. Check this site:

Thank goodness someone has a fix for MS's egotistical presumption that it knows what I want & need! Thanks so much!

This really WORKS! Thank goodness for that, and thanks for posting this up! And I agree completely with what somebody said in this thread about MS trying to pin their stuff onto us and when don't even want it.

You can put this branch in HKLM instead of HKCU and it will remove the toolbar for any user, not just the current user.

Not being able to access any of the explorer bars is a high price to pay. Is there any way to view the history if you remove the command bar?

If you Remove the entire Command Bar and history and favourites Bar don't work . you can easilly work around this by accesing favorites from the menu bar . And you can make a shortcut for history in your links . you will find the history Hidden in "C:Documents and Settingsuser NameLocal SettingsHistory" so choose make hidden files visible in the folder options

Thank You. I've been using IE7 for 8 months and the entire time I've been looking for a way to get rid of that annoying piece of junk. You did not post a 'registry hack', you provided a valuable service and it is greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much for this! I have searched a long time trying to find a way to get rid of the command bar. This worked perfectly and now I can see my screen again.

Thanks. Your scripts work fine.
The instructions for editing the Registry should make it clear that to Remove the Command Bar, you need to make two Registry changes: Both the Hide and the Remove steps are required.

Try pressing the Alt, Space and H keys simultaneously. Do this after you hit F11 and enter full screen mode. I found that you may have to do this several times before it works. Worth a shot anyway.

I need to know how to put the command bar there. I am missing it, just dissappeared on me. I have no Tools Tab, History, Favorites, or anything. How do I restore this.
