Restore missing tabs to the Display properties dialog
There is a vbscript that is available at the bottom of this page, which can restore the missing display tabs quickly for you. The script does modify certain registry settings in your system, and your anti-virus package may warn you about it. You can safely allow this script to run, so that it can perform the required task for you.
Download and then double-click the script to run. If you want to view the contents of the script, simply open it using a plain text editor such as Notepad.

I previously wrote to tell you I could not run the .vbs script supplied. I tried one other option and it worked! I right clicked on the .vbs file and chose "open with command prompt" and it is now working great!! Thanks for the script! You are a God send!

The resolution to this historically usually takes me about an hour of stripping out old drivers and reinstalling latest.
This fixed the tabs and did it in seconds!!
Fantastic time saver.

Once you steered me in the right direction and I figured out that my CA Anti Virus had changed the file, all I had to do was disable CA long enough to download the unchanged version and it worked instantly! If you only knew how long this has been a thorn in my side! You took all the work out of it, I'm really impressed...keep up the good work! You are a definite asset to the computer community.

Cool! Great script! I got the missing display tabs after updating my system to sp2 (to be able to update avg8; though not sure what exactly did it!) and couldnt figure out how to get them back. I ran a reg script which did nothing! I was about to reformat the whole thing then thought I would give it 1 more try, and thankfully stumbled upon this magnificent fix! Although I was a bit dubious at first, thought "what the heck!" may as well try it. And presto, it did 1st time as explained! As someone else mentioned previously, "A 1 click wonder!" ;-)
Thanks again, and keep up the good work!!!!

BTW, the submission form for comments wouldn't accept my actual email, so I'm trying one without a dot in my name. Sorry, I didn't intend to lie.

Tabs are back, but when clicking on Screen Saver, the following appears in the listings. "blphclw3j0ej28" This spyware shuts down pc if clicked on. Anyone know how I can delete this? Can't find it in registry. Got rid of the blue/yellow square which showed up in "My recent Documents" after the download for the tabs.

I just had something similar in which I get a red message "Your Privacy is in Danger" message on my desktop. When I look at taskmanager I see a new process that I never saw before "blphclw3j0ej28". I think this is spyware/malware. I did a search and found that this may be the Smitfraud virus, and a possible solution is SmitfraudFix which which I have not tried yet. Here's the link http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/Help-removing-Your-privacy-danger-red-screen-vi-t196504.html

May I echo all the heartfelt posts above with one of my own. A new version of Trojan.av slipped past my antivirus checks (BOTH of them) and got me.
I killed the virus, but just spent two hours trying to fix the damage. Screensaver I replaced, but the tabs?? Nobody knew how...
Your script took less than two seconds.
Thank you very much!
