Question
After upgrading from Windows XP Home Edition to Windows Vista Home Premium, the machine is missing all of the choices in AutoPlay that deal with aspects of Windows Media Player. These two options are missing in the AutoPlay dialog:
Play audio CD using Windows Media Player
Rip music from CD using Windows Media Player
How can I get the Window Media Player functionality back?
Answer
To restore the Windows Media Player AutoPlay options, copy the following contents to Notepad, and save the file with a .reg extension (Example: wmp_autoplay.reg). Right-click on the .reg file and then choose Merge.
Note: To copy the contents from the text area below, right-click anywhere on the text area and choose Select All. Then right-click on the selection, and choose Copy. Paste the contents to Notepad.
The Windows Media Player options should now be restored to the AutoPlay dialog.
