"Open With" dialog appears when double clicking on a mapped network drive in My Computer
Symptom
When you double-click a network drive in My Computer, the Open With dialog may appear rather than displaying the drive contents. However, when you right-click on the drive and choose Explore, the drive opens correctly as it should.

Resolution
- Download FixDrive.zip and save it to Desktop
- Unzip the file and extract the contents (FixDrive.exe and readme.txt) to a folder
- Double FixDrive.exe to run it
- Select the drive-letter from the list that's exhibiting the problem
- Click Fix

It doesn't work well...
At first it seems to be working, and double clicking opens the drive in explorer, but after reboot the problem appears again.

This is because this problem is caused by a virus which fakes an "Autorun" file and an associated executable to spread the virus.
An autorun file is a file present on the root of the driver which launch specific task each time you double click your drive, and in this case the task is to run the virus.
You need an antivirus to remove this virus from your computer as it usually not just an Autorun and its associated file, the virus leave files in other places in your system and launch it again every time you restart your system.
However.. In my trials when the drive in question is a local driver I usually need to reinstall windows on a clean disk and install an anti virus and do a scan as soon as my windows version is up and running.

I agree with the earlier people who commented. This thing works as long as u dont restart the system. Once restarted then the issue crops back to the same. So i suggest that MVPs should do some thing better next time to resolve this issue for good. Moreover, I have different issue on hand, if they are interested in resolving this too, then I can share the information to them.

The Fix Drive works great on XP but for a different problem of mine. I do not get the "Open With" option but I get an "Open(O)" option. I seem to be getting this when I map a network drive to a shared folder on my Windows 2003 server. But this happens to omly one particular folder. I ran a anti-sypware/malware scan and also an anti-virus scan but I couldn't get any detections. Could you mail me the registry that get affected with this change to my email ID so that I could check on my server it if still resides there or not? I would highly appreciate it. Thanks, Savio.

This method works for me. I'm using Vista, and my case is when I double-click a mapped network drive, the system keeps pop up a message said 'Application not found'. But I can access that drive without any problem when using command line interface. After applying this fix, the problem is gone even after reboot.
