You receive an error message when you click a hyperlink in Microsoft Outlook
Symptom
When you click a hyperlink in Microsoft Outlook, you may receive the following error message:
This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.

Resolution
For Windows XP (Service Pack 1 and higher)
- Click Start, Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs
- Click Set Program Access and Defaults
- Click Custom
- Under Choose a default Web browser, select Internet Explorer
- Click OK
Note: Alternately, you may launch the Set Program Access and Defaults applet via the Start menu icon (if available), or by running the command in Start, Run dialog: control appwiz.cpl,,3
For Windows Vista
- Click Start, and click Default Programs
- Click Set program access and computer defaults
- Click Custom, select Internet Explorer and click OK
- Close and re-open Microsoft Outlook

Went thru a lot of sites suggesting complicated registry edits until i found this simple solution and it worked. Thnks

The solution above works, but if you want to keep Firefox as your default browser, once you select IE7 as your default and you check that works, then go and make Firefox your default browser again, this worked for me and I could keep Firefox as my default web browser.

I was the same as Leo but I just choose Firefox initially. There's no need to select Internet Explorer first then Firefox

Like others above, I was tearing my hair out with IE settings and registry checks. This solution worked for me and I was able to get Firefox back as the default browser. Thank-you.

I'm so happy. I spent about an hour fiddling around with Internet Options, trying to find the solution in the Outlook Help section (no help there, which is just wrong!) and this quick, easy solution worked.
