How to disable ClearType smoothing in Windows Vista
Summary
Is the text appearing blurry in your CRT monitor? If so, you may try disabling ClearType smoothing option using the steps below. ClearType works especially well on LCD monitors.
Disabling ClearType
System-wide setting
- Right-click on the desktop, and click Personalize
- Click Window Color and Appearance
- Click Open classic appearance properties for more color options
- Click the Effects tab
- Under Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts, select Standard
- Click OK, OK to close the dialog.
ClearType setting for Internet Explorer
- In Internet Explorer, click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
- Click the Advanced tab, scroll to the Multimedia section, clear the following option:
Always use Clear Type for HTML
- Click OK
