Symptoms
When you open Disk Management MMC console (diskmgmt.msc), one of the following error messages may occur:
The Logical Disk Manager service is disabled. A connection cannot be established.
Unable to connect to Logical Disk Manager service.
The dependency service or group failed to start.
The specified service does not exist as an installed service.
The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion.
Resolution
This happens if one of the following services are missing in the system.
- Logical Disk Manager
- Logical Disk Manager Administrative Service
To restore the missing services, download diskmgmt.reg file available at the bottom of this page and save it to Desktop. Then, right-click the file and choose Merge. Click Yes to confirm. Restart Windows and see if you're able to launch Disk Managemt MMC successfully.

no this did not help my problem.
after recieving messages about making exceptions for windows firewall for dmremote.exe and RPC port(TCP port 135) at windows request I now get a 'no such interface supported' bok and at the bottom of the computer manager interface is 'unable to connect to Logical Disk Manager service. Any other suggestions would be helpful.
P.S. i thought it strange that it wanted me to make exceptions for windows firewall seeing as I am trying to use it on this computer and not remotely.

Not only does the reg file not solve the problem, it makes it worse by disabling one of the services needed.

@Ted: Although the LDM service / settings are corrected by the REG file, it sets LDM is to "Disabled" state. I've now modified the REG file and set the LDM to DEMAND_START.
